This device comes in a relatively large white box with the model name at the top, the manufacturer’s name in the left corner, and a small label that reads “IP68” (resistance to dust and water). Below, the main characteristics of the terminal are printed. In addition, you can see the CE logo (European Conformity) that indicates that the manufacturer complies with the legal sales requirements of the European Community.
When opening it, we find the terminal protected by a plastic bag on the left side. Below, there are three boxes, including the Spanish power transformer 5/7/9V at 2A output, a USB to USB type C cable, a USB (female) to USB type C adapter to make use of the OTG function (and be able to connect a USB memory) and a USB type C to 3.5mm Jack adapter to insert the headphones.
It also includes a small instruction manual in several languages, the key for the SIM slot, and a small lever if we want to add a memory card to the phone.
Design and Screen
It is an “off-road” or “ruggedized” terminal made of plastic, metal, and polycarbonate to make it resistant to shocks and falls. It is IP68 certified, which indicates that it has complete protection against dust and water.
Its measurements are 81.9 mm wide, 168.8 mm high, and 13.9 mm thick, and it weighs 285 grams.
It has a 5.7″ IPS LCD screen and an HD+ resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The density is 282 pixels per inch. It does not have screen resistance certifications. Therefore, I would put tempered glass on it to protect it from possible shocks. This is a screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9.
The range of colors is not quite good. It shows them quite pale. On the other hand, in full sun you can’t see it very well, and you have to strain your eyes. What is most striking about its design is how “big” it is. At the front is the speaker, the selfie camera on the left, and a small LED flash on the right. It does not have navigation buttons appearing on the screen when needed.
At the top rear, centered, we find a double-centered camera and a double-led flash. Below is the fingerprint sensor that works perfectly despite the fact that, for my taste, it is too high up and difficult to hit the first time. Further down is the brand logo, followed by the speaker. The whole rear part is made of rubber, preventing slipping and making it more resistant.
The right and left sides are made of metal, and the upper and lower ones are made of rubber. The upper part is immaculate, and the lower part has the USB type C cable entrance covered with a rubber cover. On the left is the SIM card slot (in this case, two slots for nano-sim cards or a nano-sim and a memory card), and on the right, we find the volume up and down buttons and the on and off.
Software
This Oukitel WP5000 brings the version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat multilanguage. And like most manufacturers, they add a layer of customization that “dirties” the Android operating system. And, for my taste, it makes it ugly.
This has a remedy since we can download a “launcher” application to put on a personalized appearance, such as Nova Launcher or Google Now Launcher.
In the theme that comes by default, it maintains the application drawer (sliding up), so we will have all the apps identified vertically and in alphabetical order.
This phone comes with Google services installed, so we will have the Google Play store available without having to do anything. It also includes Gmail, Maps, Photos, YouTube, and other native Android applications: a file manager, an email manager, a battery-saving app, and an FM Radio app without needing the Internet. Also, mention that it brings another one that cannot be eliminated and gives us a warning about protection against water.
If we look at the main menu, we find other applications such as Schedule on and off, an app to configure the screen, and one that allows us to configure where we want the application data to be consumed (Wifi or the data of our tariff mobile).
To verify that the mobile is free of viruses, I have passed the Malwarebytes application to prove it.
Power and Hardware
This WP5000 brings a MediaTek Helio P25 processor (MT675 7CD) with eight cores at a maximum speed of 2.6 GHz. It is a 64-bit processor with an ARM Cortex A53 structure with an ARM Mali-T880 MP2 graphics card. It also has 6 GB of RAM, which makes it a mid-range device at a reasonable price.
And as always, to check the phone’s performance, we submitted it with a practically empty terminal and with the battery at maximum to the AnTuTu version 7 performance test, obtaining 76248 points.
The device has a storage capacity of 64GB, which, if we discount what is occupied by the operating system and pre-installed applications, we are left with 54.09GB for our use. In addition, if it seems minor, it is possible to add an SD memory card to save photos and videos.
After using it for over a week, I have to say that it has not given me any problems. It has worked quickly for messaging applications, such as social networks (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter), and for browsing the Internet. When playing multiplayer games, although it also behaves well, perhaps when loading the games, it does so with a short waiting time or “lag” that does not affect gameplay.
